From Mountains to Mountains
Well our summer started off kind of slow and we were ready for the shows to hit. With the first quarter behind us and the whole summer in front of us Daron and I hit the road for a summer adventure, our first stop was Salinas, Ca. We got there a couple of days early to set up on display in front of the complex. The fans there are unreal and we enjoyed meeting new fans and the fans we had for years. Sunday was race day and everything was going great. I raced my way into the finals losing to the ever so gracious Tom. Freestyle was where the weekend took a turn. Daron followed his brother in freestyle and thought he could better his brother’s screw up so he hit the same obstacle twice as hard and got twice the air but also wrecked twice as hard. Daron and the new crew guy (Jacob Smallwood) headed to Dan Rodoni’s shop to repair El Matador before the WHR Motorsports Tour. They both busted their tails and got the truck fixed in record time and headed out to Monroe, WA. We hit Monroe with winning on our mind, but my engine had other plans. I ran Rick in Obsession in the semi finals and upon winning the race I broke the crankshaft. I was out for the rest of the weekend. We took the body off of my truck and switched it out with El Matador to fulfill the obligation with WHR. Daron did a great job running Krunch the rest of the weekend. This was the start of a long week for us all. We do our best to break the new guys in right and this week would be no exception. We took off to Spokane, WA to get started on the engine, first we had Jake get the trailer/engine room clean so we could get the engine apart and back together without any extra trash in it. I got on the phone for the first two days trying to gather the parts we needed to get everything back in top shape. With all the parts in on Thursday we had our work cut out for us if we wanted the truck ready for the Friday night race. We worked late into the night and got everything together. We got up bright and early Friday morning, got the engine back in the truck and running by lunch time, what a relief. The rest of the weekend went pretty good. Sunday morning Jake and I got up early to fly out, Jake was heading to Europe and I needed to get some work done at the shop. Daron headed over to Missoula, MO with the rest of the Carney Crew (Rick and Eric with Obsession Racing). We had a good weekend winning some and losing some. There is still one that I haven’t figured out yet, somehow Daron T-Boned me after we finished the racing finals on Saturday night. I guess he was just upset that the old guy whooped up on him. His truck must not have like the contact because it broke a spindle off on the first hit in freestyle. With everything back together and in its place Daron headed back to the shop to get ready for the next phase of the summer.
We changed things up on Daron for once and sent him on a flight instead on me flying. I drove out so my family could go to Benton, MO with me. We got to our display location only to find that it wasn’t large enough to get our rig into. After several phones calls we headed back to the track to set up King Krunch on display at the track. They were going to have Friday night races then the sky opened up, imagine that. Saturday comes and the sky cleared to some great Missouri weather. The race was on. We qualified well and Krunch went to the finals. Then came freestyle Daron went out and laid down a solid run to put him on the board, I came out wanting to show the Missouri fans that we were there for business. I lost to Digger by one point. Sunday was set to be the same, but when we started the trucks to get ready for intros I noticed a noise. We checked everything out and found a broken flexplate. Daron went out and raced into the finals losing to Digger while I had pulled the transmission and replaced the broken part, I got the truck back together in time for freestyle. Daron and I both laid out good passes with Krunch losing by one point to Digger once more. We loaded up and headed back home. It was great to have the family with me on Father’s Day.
Daron and I worked at the shop, with our new CNC Plasma cutter, this machine is awesome. We started to build a new jack and it sure made cutting the brackets and braces easy. We want to thank the guys at www.EZ-Router.com for their support.
With or new jack underway and more races to head to, Daron and I took off to Missouri once more. Our next city was Sedalia, MO for Mega Promotions. We got in late Friday night in time for more rain, but Saturday was nice and sunny. With a great field of trucks, Daron and I ran to a 3rd place finish for Daron and a 2nd place finish for me. The fans got a treat in freestyle with everyone coming out and putting on strong performances. But Bounty ended the show with a demo derby style run. He broke his front wheel off on the third jump but continued his run ramming everything he could. The crowd left happy and that is what it is all about.
As always we want to thank all of our sponsors for their support, without them none of this would be possible.
